Nothing Great About the G8, November 11, 2008
By centralohioguy

"After reading about the new G8 and reading Aaron's review of it, I had to get out to drive it myself. At first glance, it's a beautiful car, and just based on looks, it's far better than the Pontiac Grand Prix that it replaces. Even the interior styling of the G8 is hands down above anything ever produced by pontiac, or even any GM car. The layout is well thought out from the rear-ward slope of the back seats to the cup holders in the front doors. This well laid-out design is a fresh change from the previous Pontiacs.
That's where the good qualities ended for me. There is only one suspension option for all versions of the Pontiac G8 and it's EXTRA-stiff. While it's good for cornering, everyday driving is no fun when you can feel every bump on the road.
The two engine options are powerful no matter what your budget, but the engine noise sounds like Pontiac actually pipes in engine noise into the cabin like the New England Patriots pipe in crowd noise into their stadium. While it sounds cool to have an engine like that the only people that will appeal to is teenagers and Harley owners. If the engine noise doesn't bother you, then the wind noise just might. Even at 45 MPH there is pronounced wind noise in the cabin. If the noise from the engine and wind gets you distracted, don't count on GPS Navigation to help you find your way, because IT'S NOT EVEN AN OPTION. In my opinion, you'd be better off looking at a Dodge Charger as a much better alternative. The sad part, I actually read that GM thinks that their new G8 competes against BMW. What are they thinking at GM?"
